My Mouth Shall Speak of Wisdom
About this artwork
This photographic image has been used numerous times by Graham Fagen in a variety of formats. It first appeared in his solo exhibition ‘Clean Hands, Pure Heart’, at Tramway, Glasgow in 2005 and was also used in his solo exhibition ‘Closer’, at Doggerfisher, Edinburgh in the same year. This particular version is a cmyk print made for the Cove Park Portfolio in 2006, using a four-colour process which causes the colours to break up and fragment, adding to the eeriness of the work. The ambiguous image is part of Fagen’s ‘library of ideas’, a larger body of work exploring identity, symbolism and cultural associations, with a particular focus on the links created between Scotland and Jamaica during Robert Burns’s lifetime.
