Standing with his wife and daughter, this miner makes plain his support for: Rangers Football Club; their captain and manager at that time, John Greig MBE; the British Army; the loyalist Orange Order and Queen Elizabeth II. Miners in Lanarkshire, Fife and East Ayrshire might have identified with either side of Scotland's religious divide, or neither. Union policy and workplace solidarity seemed to override this division. This proud Orangeman was also one of the main organisers of the miners' strike of 1984–85 in Fife.
