About this artwork
Artist Prunella Clough returned to printmaking in 1958, after an invitation from Curwen Studio in East London. By 1961 she was working with printmaker Stanley Jones to create both lithographs and monographs, like these shown here. Her days began to pivot around the slow processes of printmaking. Writing in a letter to a friend, she commented: ‘being in a workshop is like being in a train or something: detached and timeless (and extremely pleasant).’ As with her paintings, Clough’s prints develop abstract compositions from a wide range of architectural and environmental source material. Their moody textures only hint at interior or exterior spaces.
