About this artwork

This work is painted on pages from The Guardian newspaper which have been combined in a collage. Swain has taken inspiration from the juxtaposition of images found in the newspaper to create a surreal and fantastical landscape, developing shapes and patterns he particularly likes. Taking the running track on the bottom left as a starting point, he has continued the pattern into the upper section. The other elements to the right of the work appear to be suggested by the built environment, but their precise nature is not clear. In the top right corner is a patch of grass, which was most likely the source of the work’s title. Swain chooses titles for his works which are suggestive rather than prescriptive, inviting the viewer to make up their own mind.
