About this artwork
The writer Aonghas MacNeacail was born in Uig on the Isle of Skye. He was committed to the continuation of the Gaelic language, often writing poetry in Gaelic and drawing upon Gaelic themes and traditions. When he was awarded the Stakis Prize for Scottish Literature in 1997, he dedicated his award to ‘every bard, known and anonymous, who ever made the Gaelic language sing’. In 2015, he was awarded the Saltire Society’s premier award for his contribution to the arts and the humanities.
