About this artwork

Shelesnyak layers his work with multiple meanings that are far from all attributable to him as an individual, integrating press cuttings, typed fragmented sentences, quotes and questions or stenciled lettering into much of his work while maintaining a degree of visible brushwork. In fact, at times, it is rather like he is considering the abstract concept of him as an artist, presenting a critique of the artist Henry Shelesnyak as opposed to simply being that artist.
