Robbie Coltrane had a hugely successful career in TV, stage and film. Born Anthony Robert McMillan in South Lanarkshire, he studied at Glasgow School of Art and Moray House College of Education, Edinburgh, before getting involved in theatre and stand-up comedy in his early twenties. It was then that he adopted his stage name. Coltrane became known through such TV shows as Tutti Frutti, in 1987, and Cracker in the 1990s. He then entered the world stage with parts in the Bond films, Goldeneye, 1995, and The World Is Not Enough, 1999. From 2001-11, he was cast as Hagrid in the Harry Potter films, after J.K. Rowling championed him for the role. In 2006 Coltrane won an OBE for his services to drama.
