Beautiful C painting
About this artwork
Inspired by a feature in the children's television programme Blue Peter, Damien Hirst created this painting using household gloss paint poured onto the canvas while it is spinning round. It is one in a series of 'spin paintings' begun in 1995. Each machine-made painting is vibrant and unique, with the end result depending not on the hand of the artist but on centrifugal force. Hirst's work is preoccupied with life and death, often examining the ironic relationship between the two. Such an idea is exemplified by the way this dynamic piece bursts with life despite being created by a machine.
