About this artwork

Wind strips the slender birch tree of its leaves, rain falls in the distant valley and a small figure ploughing the field battles, both against the elements and the steep terrain. William Hackstoun has concentrated on the effects of weather on the landscape. His highly stylised views were painted in his studio but were largely based on the countryside in Fife and Perthshire.
