About this artwork

Jeremy Sutton-Hibbert's work in the Ukraine, documenting the terrible after-effects of the Chernobyl disaster, earned him the prestigious Felix Man Memorial Award. His work lies normally within the classic area of documentary photography - addressing people and social concerns. This image, taken on a return trip to the Ukraine in 1998, is less direct, looking aside for the moment, and enjoying the ambiguity of the roadside café in a set of reflections confused by light - is it a window on the left, or a mirror, where will be be if we go through the door and turn left?
