About this artwork
In 1998 McMurdo approached St Mary's Music School in Edinburgh to photograph its pupils during practice sessions. This picture belongs to the series 'Young Musicians' and was produced at that time. The girl's violin has been erased using digital technology, and this has given the photograph some of the strangeness of her intense and withdrawn concentration on a sound we cannot hear.
