Pasquccia is a representative nineteenth-century Roman peasant girl. She wears a typical costume — a classical style tunic with a veil and her oval face is framed by cascading hair. The bust is inscribed at the back ‘J. Hutchison R.S.A. 1869’. Inspired by his studies in Rome, Hutchison sculpted a number of similar works, all of which display qualities of pureness and charm.
