About this artwork
This portrait most likely depicts Susanna Baillij, second wife of François Wouters, a councillor, alderman, and mayor in Haarlem. The couple married in 1645 and this portrait was probably painted to commemorate their marriage. The portrait is a companion to her husband’s portrait, also in the collection of the National Galleries of Scotland.
