About this artwork

Following a period studying under Fernand Léger in Paris, Crosbie returned to Glasgow and after World War II received several commissions for church altarpieces and decorations. ‘Post Mortem’ relates to these works. The Christ figure has five coloured legs which stand for the five continents, and suggest that Christ is part of us all. The style reflects Crosbie’s interest in early Italian art, particularly Piero della Francesca.
