About this artwork

Born in Paisley, Knox first established himself as a portrait painter and drawing master in Glasgow. Having turned to landscape, he became one of the most influential painters of Glasgow cityscapes and spectacular views of the west of Scotland. In 1810 Knox exhibited a panorama of Ben Lomond, one of his favourite vistas, in a temporary wooden building in Queen Street in Glasgow. This work forms part of a pair with Knox’s North Western View from Ben Lomond.
