About this artwork
In 1965 Paolozzi began making small table–top ‘object–sculptures’. Most of these works were made from sheet metal, cut out and welded together, then chrome–plated. The highly polished surface allows the sculptures to reflect the colours of the room they are placed in. The undulating, ribbon–like edges of this work echo the shapes in some of Paolozzi’s As Is When screenprints of the same year. Paolozzi’s work across all media is peppered with recurring motifs, shapes, and patterns. The cut paper of collage and screenprint stencils is mirrored in three–dimensional sheet metal constructions.
