David Octavius Hill & Robert Adamson
Greyfriars' Churchyard, the Mackenzie Tomb
About this artwork
This photograph shows the tomb of ‘bloody’ George Mackenzie in Greyfriars Churchyard, Edinburgh. Mackenzie was a lawyer and politician who earned his nickname due to his persecution of Covenanters. His tomb is reputedly haunted due to his restless spirit. In this image two figures are entering the tomb, of which one is possibly David Octavius Hill.
