About this artwork

This drawing is a satirical self-portrait of the aged Picasso (who was eighty-six years old at the time) and his naked model. She is his muse, Jacqueline Rocque, whom he married in 1961. Sitting on a chamberpot, as if incontinent, he points his phallic pipe in her direction. A common theme in Picasso's later work is a clothed older man looking at a young naked woman. This was influenced by Manet's celebrated painting 'Le Déjeuner sur l'herbe.'
