About this artwork
George Washington Wilson photographed Edinburgh from Calton Hill on a number of occasions as did many other professional and amateur photographers. From the hill one can still get a good view of all the important landmarks in the centre of the city. In Wilson's own words: 'From this viewpoint Princes Street with its ceaseless travellers and countless buildings is seen to best advantage'. Easily recognisable are the silhouettes of the Scott Monument, the Castle and St Giles Cathedral. The building site on the left is the extension of Waverly Station under construction.
