About this artwork
The series Tender was commissioned to celebrate 50 years of the National Health Service in Scotland. Over the course of six months, photographer Iain Stewart shadowed Edinburgh GPs Dr Ninian Hewitt and Dr Susan Moir during practice consultations and home visits. The photographs he made show the strong relationships we build with the people who care for us, and the images perhaps cause us to stop and reflect on our own health. When the last census took place in 2011, twenty percent of Scotland’s population, a total of one million people, reported that their day to day lives were limited by a long-term health problem or disability.
