About this artwork

Eardley often used several sheets to make a single drawing, extending the surface area by casually tacking additional paper on at the edges. Some are fixed with paperclips, others with glue – presumably stuck together when she returned to her cottage. Whilst Eardley’s drawings often feature the same motifs seen in her paintings, they rarely function as preparatory studies for specific paintings. Rather they are thought experiments, an integral part of her working process.
