Alfred Kingsley Lawrence

Sir David Young Cameron, 1865 - 1945. Artist

About this artwork

Dressed in his painting smock, as though interrupted at his easel, D Y Cameron posed for his friend Alfred Kingsley Lawrence in a portrait which is deliberately suggestive of Italian Renaissance portraiture. Throughout his career Cameron enjoyed a dual reputation as an inventive painter of Scottish landscapes, characterised by dramatic contrasts of light and colour, and as an etcher of exceptional skill and sensitivity.
