About this artwork

The artworks GMA 5664, GMA 5665 and GMA 5666 are different impressions of the same engraved woodblock, with different levels of inking. In 1976 Gabo had the idea of issuing his twelve most resolved monoprints in a portfolio with a specially designed cover. He died the following year and the project was realised posthumously under the title Twelve Monoprinted Wood Engravings: these are the monoprints titled Opus One to Opus Twelve. Examples of all twelve prints were given by Gabo’s family to the National Galleries of Scotland in 2020, plus, in addition, these more experimental works which were not included in that portfolio. They may be among Gabo’s first woodblock experiments.
