About this artwork
The prints identified as GMA 5664, GMA 5665 and GMA 5666 are different impressions of the same engraved woodblock, with different levels of inking. In 1976 Gabo released portfolios of his monoprints, under the title Twelve Monoprinted Wood Engravings – these are the monoprints titled Opus One to Opus Twelve. Examples of all twelve prints were given by Gabo’s family to the National Galleries of Scotland in 2020, plus, in addition, these more experimental works which were not included in that portfolio. They may be among Gabo’s first woodblock experiments.
