Opus Eight

About this artwork

Gabo’s monoprints became increasingly sophisticated with time. Opus Eight was preceded by three preparatory drawings, one of which was traced around a piece of cut plastic, which acted as a stencil. It seems that the drawing was traced onto the wooden block around a cut plastic stencil – affirming the close relationship between Gabo as sculptor and printmaker. There are thirty-nine recorded examples of this print.
