About this artwork

The Goggle Head series began in 1967, when Frink moved to France. She stated: ‘I got interested in the Algerian war, which was then only just over. … What really triggered the series were some extraordinary photographs of people like General Oufkir. They all hid behind dark glasses, and these became a symbol of evil for me. The title Goggle Head was rather facetious, a way of dealing with the horror of the imagery. This head was cast in bronze in an edition of six.
