About this artwork

In this series of works, made for an exhibition at Glasgow Print Studio titled Show Me Your Glow (2018), Phillips worked in an improvised way over a period of several months, moving back and forth between various printmaking processes with the assistance of Ian McNicol, Master Printer. Underpinning these works are thoughts about absorption, touch and connection which Phillips explores largely through analogue means, but often in reference to the digital. As with many of her other works, Phillips’ titles function as suggestive leaders that open up a space around the image and frequently connect to wider societal and political questions raised through her practice. In this work, a folded and inked sheet of newsprint and strip of masking tape are combined to create a large open envelope that is both a carrier of information, and the message itself. As a title, Google it, points towards the dominant digital platform that underpins most online searches while also acting as a directive suggesting that you don’t ask, and instead find out for yourself.
