About this artwork

Picasso seems to have made just one etching in 1906 and then none again until he made this work in spring 1909. This drypoint print was printed by Eugène Delâtre and published by Daniel-Henry Kahnweiler in 1912. It displays a young boy presenting a cup or chalice to a seated female nude. Picasso made similar sketches around 1908. These were studies for a major composition which, unfortunately, was never completed.
