About this artwork
Bellany was born in Port Seton, near Edinburgh. In the early 1960s he studied at Edinburgh College of Art, where he met his future wife Helen Percy. They married, then divorced in 1977 and then remarried ten years later when he was seriously ill. A liver transplant in 1988 gave him a second life.
