This detailed engraving illustrates a dark story of magic and transformation titled The Leaves that Hung but Never Grew. It is one of a series of illustrations made by Miller Parker for the book XXI Welsh Gypsy Folk Tales. The book contained 21 stories collected from Welsh travellers by John Sampson, an Irish scholar and linguist. It was published in a limited edition of 250 by Gregynog Press in 1933 and cemented Miller Parker’s reputation as one of the finest wood engravers of the 20th century.
