This is one of a number of quick sketches of Edinburgh from Calton Hill in this sketchbook, which was used by James Paterson between March and July 1921 in Edinburgh and on the continent. Clearly drawn late in the day with the sun low on the horizon, the drawing is inscribed ‘19 July, 10.45.’
