About this artwork
This etching shows Professor Robert Steele who appears in the painting Three Oncologists by Ken Currie (he is the figure on the left). As the oncologists were unable to gather together for the artist to observe them, Currie decided to make life masks of their faces. Professor Steele is shown having wet plaster layers applied to his face in preparation for a life mask to be made. He recently retired from the University of Dundee’s School of Medicine. During his career he oversaw the introduction of the Scottish Colorectal Cancer Screening Programme.
