About this artwork
The composition of the figures in this image was taken from an issue of a comic book titled 'Falling in Love' from January 1964. However, Lichtenstein radically reworked the composition, transforming it from an exchange between two women into an encounter between the sexes. Over the image of the figures, the arrangement of collaged bands of metalised PVC and organisation of Benday dots and diagonal lines present an abstracted image of reflections. The dense arrangement of red Benday dots seems to fuse the two picture planes that Lichtenstein establishes - the image of the man and woman; and the glazed surface through which we see the image.
