About this artwork
The Dance dates from Marks’s early years, possibly the time when she was studying at the Weimar Bauhaus under Johannes Itten and Gerhard Marcks from 1920-21. A comparable watercolour of a dancing bear, in the British Museum collection in London, is dated 1921.
