About this artwork
Grace Westry studied at the Slade School of Art in London alongside Augustus John and his sister Gwen. In 1897 they moved into a flat at 21 Fitzroy Street, in the city’s Borough of Camden. This delicate drawing dates from this time and shows John’s sensitive skill as a draughtsman, harmoniously combining the red of the chalk with the grey of the paper.
