Untitled (Bedroom Abstract)
About this artwork
This painting appears to show a nude walking in an interior, whilst another, female figure reclines on a red bed in the foreground. The right of the composition could be an entrance in to another space, or perhaps a mirror reflecting a distorted view of the scene to the left. A dressing table with egg-shaped mirror appears in the background. Lucas produced numerous surrealist paintings in from 1939-41 and thereafter surrealist elements still populated his work. The movement and distortion of the forms in this work also seem to show the influence of Vorticism.
