About this artwork
Rudolf Grossman was a printmaker and illustrator who worked in Berlin between the wars. His spare expressive, linear style of drawing was not uncommon in German art of the period, and is typical of late Expressionism/New Objectivity. H.R Knickerbocker was a Pulitzer Prize-winning American journalist who worked in Berlin from 1923 to 1933. Knickerbocker was deported from Germany when the Nazis came to power because of his opposition to Hitler.
