Ivor Cutler (1923 - 2006) Poet, Humourist and Singer
About this artwork
Ivor Cutler was a poet, comedian, humourist, musician, songwriter, storyteller, author and artist. His dryly funny, melancholic and absurdist live performances, recordings and books have been described as ‘Surrealist folk’. Cutler followed in the footsteps of the music hall tradition whilst anticipating Monty Python. One obituary describes him as : ‘The ultimate outsider’s outsider …peering sombrely from the stage behind owlish glasses, singing songs about bugs, herrings and his father pointing at thistles, his faithful harmonium wheezing along beside him.’
