About this artwork
In the mid 1970s Ruscha began exploring ways to use phrases or sentences in paintings and prints, set against a variety of unconventional, textured backdrops such as this one. ‘Made in the U.S.A.’ is the trademark which authenticates the country of origin of a product. The phrase is symbolic as an emblem of national pride and Ruscha alludes to this in the title of the print.
