About this artwork
Although they are best known for their portraiture, Hill and Adamson photographed a number of different subjects during their partnership including a number of artworks and antiquities. The oak door in this picture depicts the biblical scene of Samson killing a lion, and was in the collection of the Society of Antiquities when this picture was taken.
