About this artwork

A monotype is a unique print, which can be made using a variety of methods. It generally requires little specialist equipment and is a very quick and direct method of making a print. Ink is applied to a smooth surface (often a sheet of glass) and drawn into and moved around to produce an image. A sheet of paper is then laid over and pressed down to take the impression. Here, Colquhoun has separately inked the surface twice, and printed from it.
