About this artwork
Sir Arnold Clark is a name synonymous with the motor car in Scotland. He has sold more cars than anyone else over the past sixty years. The former RAF mechanic began selling used motors in Glasgow’s Park Road and soon built up his reputation based on assured quality of service, affordability and hire purchase agreements. He has helped millions of Britons buy their first cars. Sir Arnold, one of Scotland’s most famous business figures, has generously supported many charitable causes over the last forty years. This simple portrait positions Sir Arnold in a garage with a vintage car behind him – it is from these foundations that he built his empire. It is part of a series of portraits commissioned to celebrate Scotland’s entrepreneurial talent.
