About this artwork
This photograph shows the painter Richard Walker in his Glasgow studio in 1984. Malde was staying with Walker after recently moving to Glasgow, following four years living and working on the Orkney Isles. It is a dark and atmospheric shot which captures some interesting, and initially alien, objects in the foreground. At this time Walker was grinding his own pigments and here Malde has incorporated the tools needed to do this - a glass muller, bags of pigments, oils for binding and a plate of glass.
