About this artwork
In this series of drawings Paxton Brown portrays this experience of artists painting and drawing in an art gallery; of observing and being observed. The stance of the male painter is theatrical and makes him look like a performer. Related sketches in this series include 'Man Painting Observed by Two Children' (GMA 1709) and 'Shade of what ho' (GMA 1707).
