About this artwork

Beside her first assignment from Vogue in 1949 to create portraits of leading Scottish artists and writers, Lida Moser produced a series of photographs of a very different kind during the month she spent in Scotland. This is an image of the staff and apprentices at the Dovecot tapestry studios in Corstorphine. Founded in 1912 to promote the Arts and Crafts movement, the Dovecot brought together artists and craftsmen to produce some of the finest tapestries in the world. Wading Birds, a design by Graham Sutherland, can be seen on the loom behind the weavers.
