9 November 2011 – January 2012
Scottish National Gallery – IT Gallery
In the summer of 2011, the National Galleries of Scotland worked with Ecas, an Edinburgh-based charity that promotes opportunities for people with disabilities to participate fully in society.
Ecas holds regular art classes 5 times a week for disabled people to promote confidence and teach new skills.
Working with contemporary artist Elaine Allison, and inspired by the Portrait of the Nation exhibition at the Scottish National Gallery, participants explored different art-making techniques in order to create a mixed-media portrait triptych, or three-part artwork, exploring themes of narrative and identity.
The artwork produced was exhibited in the IT Gallery at the Scottish National Gallery from 9th November 2011 to late January 2012.
