Further & Higher Education

The National Galleries of Scotland is an immensely valuable resource for students and tutors in further and higher education. In addition to an art collection of international quality and first-rate temporary exhibitions, we also have specialist Library, Archive and Special Collections providing a rich resource for the study of art. Dedicated study areas at each of our three sites are open to the public by appointment, Monday to Friday. The National Galleries of Scotland is home to in excess of 50,000 works on paper, including drawings, prints and photographs. When not on display, these works can be made available for viewing in our Print Rooms. Please see the links below for further information on appointment times and access information for each Library and Print Room:

We can offer the following facilities to students and tutors in higher and further education:

  • a regular talks and lectures programme relating to the collection and temporary exhibitions
  • guided and self-guided tours of the collection
  • reduced-price entry to temporary exhibitions (two weeks’ notice required)
