Pilgrimage From Scattered Points’ is a film about the English composer Cornelius Cardew and his avant-garde Scratch Orchestra which celebrated the notion that anyone can play music. The result is an intriguing and absorbing film that documents the ground-breaking orchestra from its conception in the late 1960s to its demise in 1973. ‘Pilgrimage From Scattered Points’ investigates what Fowler has describes as “the internal contradictions and struggles of The Scratch Orchestra… through interviews, recent and archival footage and predominantly unreleased music”. In his visually engaging imagery and sound, which is unfamiliar and chaotic yet also demonstrates an underlying structure and cohesion, Fowler encapsulates the whole nature of Scratch music.
