Two works by Scottish artist Ian Hamilton Finlay have been generously given by the artist’s estate jointly to National Galleries of Scotland and Tate for ARTIST ROOMS to complement the major installation Sailing Dinghy (1996) already held in the collection. Together, these three works will form the centrepiece for an extended display at the Scottish National Gallery of Modern Art in spring 2010.
As well as exploring Finlay’s fascination with the sea and boats, additional works from the Gallery of Modern Art’s extensive holdings of Finlay’s practice will enable visitors to engage with the artist’s wider interests in literature, politics and Romanticism.
