Julian Calder (British, born 20th November 1945)
Born in Essex, Calder studied photography at Guildford School of Art. He began his photographic career as an assistant for advertising photographers. However, after seeing the work of photojournalist, William Eugene Smith, Calder became more interested in reportage. Following an assignment to photograph ‘The end of the Hippie dream’ in America, he went on to work for Time Magazine and Fortune Magazine. Calder is also interested in the sphere of employment and has received commissions to produce photographs for over 100 annual reports and company brochures. For the last ten years he has focused more on portrait photography. In 2012 Calder was commissioned to take sixteen official portraits of Her Majesty The Queen and HRH Prince Philip.
